One Monthly Goal - June 2018 Finish!

I've been so busy lately so this is going to be a quick post! June is over so it's time to report back on my one monthly goal.

My June goal was to Finish three snail blocks for the Garden Snail Quilt. I'm excited to say that I met (and exceeded) my goal!!!

I now have 42 complete snails. I am almost done sewing them into rows and adding the sashing. I should be completely finished with the top by the 4th of July!

I'm honestly not in love with every snail, but what I loved about making this quilt was that it gave me a chance to practice using the similar colors together. I have no training in color theory so I just do what looks good to me. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But practicing always helps hone skills. I also thought about contrast. Not sure I learned anything about it but I did look at the blocks in greyscale to consider the tone of the layout. Not each block, just all of the blocks together. I didn't hit the contrast I would have liked but it was still a chance to practice and look at the creation of a quilt in different ways. Again, I'm just learning by doing and sometimes that is more valuable than the final product.

  2. Yes June was super busy for me as well. Congratulations on exceeding your goal! We do learn about colour and contrast (and anything else) by doing. Your quilt looks great and you learned a lot about colour theory in the doing!!
